Wir haben mit Kollegen das Kraftwerk besichtigt. Die kompetenten und fröhlichen Guides führten uns mit ihrem umfassenden Wissen in die Anlage ein und erzählten uns viel über ihre Geschichte, Natur, Episoden aus dem Krieg, den Umgang mit Trümmern und andere interessante Fakten. Es war ein sehr interessantes Erlebnis in dieser beeindruckenden Anlage.

The hydroelectric power plants on the Rhine River are located on the border between Switzerland and Germany. The hydroelectric power plants on both sides are obviously very different.
An exciting visit awaits at the power plant, originally built in 1916. This hydroelectric power station has been continuously modernized over its more than 100 years of operation and can be visited by groups by prior arrangement. The original Francis turbines have been replaced by optimized Kaplan turbines. Also of interest are the fish ladder and the never-used ship lock, planned for the Upper Rhine shipping route. It is considered the most beautiful brick power plant on the Rhine. The plant utilizes a reservoir height of approximately 11 meters. The reservoir was created upstream of the Glatt estuary, and it extends beyond the Thur estuary. Approximately 90% of the electricity generated is supplied to Switzerland – corresponding to the country's share. During construction, the Glatt River was canalized and its course lowered by four meters. It flows into the Rhine via a tunnel below the power plant. The first migrating salmon were sighted in 2017. An experience for the whole family. Visitors can also walk across the power plant to the other side of the river. An ideal starting point for hikes along the Rhine or Glatt. There are parking spaces at the power plant, or you can use public transport via Glattfelden train station.
The Eglisau-Glattfelden hydroelectric power plant is an impressive structure, not only in its size but also in its architecture. You can explore the power plant independently from the outside. A footpath leads directly along the lock gates into Germany. It's certainly an impressive and unforgettable experience. If you take the short detour via Zweideln train station, the passage is also wheelchair accessible. There's a boat lock on the German side. With a bit of luck, a ship will pass by, and you can observe the lock operation firsthand.
