During a bus trip over the Klausen Pass, I stopped for lunch in Altdorf. The food at the Coop restaurant was good and reasonably priced. A stroll through the narrow streets allowed me to photograph some beautiful houses. Afterwards, I boarded the Diamant boat in Flüelen and sailed to Vitznau. From there, I took the Rigi Railway up to Rigi Kulm. The view of Lake Lucerne was magnificent.
Tellsgasse from the intersection with Bahnhofstrasse to Schmiedgasse intersection with Gitschenstrasse: This section of road in the heart of Altdorf has been a shared space zone since autumn 2025, with a maximum speed of 20 km/h and a ban on trucks.
The town hall, a building in the style of a burgher's house, doesn't particularly stand out at first glance. A stately white building, it only reveals its unusual features upon closer inspection. Above the entrance, the head of a bull, the symbol of Uri, is prominently displayed. A coat of arms adorns the stairwell railing, depicting a bird and white stripes on a red background. It is likely the coat of arms for Altdorf, and its design suggests a rather aristocratic origin.
