Welcome back! We enjoyed a couple of visits last weekend and are delighted to have the restaurant open again. We were initially nervous it would be a disappointment as we had read the reviews here transparently sharing the sad news about the chef being seriously ill. However we really enjoyed both visits! We ate well - and the portions are certainly generous and it was so yummy I had to force myself to stop eating or I would not have moved all afternoon! Service is great and friendly - also very personal and thoughtful. The kids got extra cream on their chocolate cake and the owner provided Jass cards to entertain them whilst we enjoyed a beer! Really happy and already looking forward to many more visits and trying out more of the menu.

Definitely my favorite restaurant on Axalp. The restrant lies at around 1535 metres above Brienz on the southern shore of the lake. It can be reached by post bus or car in 35 minutes from Brienz. It has very spectacular views of the surrounding mountain range and Lake Brienz below. From spring to autumn, Axalp is also an ideal location for hiking and climbing activities. A woodcarving trail leads to the tiny deep green Hinterburgseeli lake. It is scattered by sculptures carved out of tree trunks by local woodcarvers. The idea for trail project was born after a terrible storm hit in 1999 and wreaked havoc on the mountainside and many trees where fulled. Carvers and sculptors still continue to add to the art along the trail. Experience the creation of works of art while hiking along the beautiful trail from restaurant Axalp Stübli to the Hinterburgsee lake. There are now some what 80 carvings along the woodcarving trail with new ones being added at the end of July each year. Also be sure to check back in after your bike and order a Jungfrau beer wich is the perfect topping to the end of your hike? Don't let it stop you in winter thou.
