Super 👌 …
When Pilatus Maintenance could no longer operate, Peter arrived with a Schiltrac and a snowblower to help. Within a few hours, the huge amounts of snow were cleared so we could get back to work. Thank you, Peter!
My conclusion about the Schiltrac on tracks is very positive. If you're used to a snow groomer, what this machine can do is truly impressive. It certainly doesn't replace a snow groomer, but then again, grooming ski slopes isn't its primary function. What fascinated me most was how the Schiltrac climbs. I seriously underestimated it; it's tremendous. And then, in these conditions with lots of wet, fresh snow, empty and unloaded, I could have imagined it, but then loaded with the additional snow groomer on the platform and a total weight of over 14 tons, it blew me away. The excellent cornering with the ingenious all-wheel steering and hydrostatic transmission also impressed me (not to mention that the Schiltrac stands on very narrow tracks, unlike a snow groomer). It was clear that evening that the Schiltrac could easily outpace a snow groomer. In the curve where the groomer had to reverse two or three times, the Schiltrac, with its all-wheel steering, was able to fully exploit its potential. What's also remarkable is how it clings to the snow even on the descent. It maintains a steady 25 km/h down a ski slope without any problems, and the vehicle doesn't roll an inch. Thanks to its excellent suspension, this is also combined with a high level of ride comfort. I don't think it's suitable for ski slope preparation, but it's perfect for mountain railway operators who need a year-round transport vehicle. It can be used in the summer for construction work or agriculture, and in the fall and winter, mounted on tracks, for transporting snow cannons, even in combination with the front and rear hydraulics, as well as for marking and securing ski slopes or supplying mountain restaurants. ``` Even though it's in a high price range, its year-round usability will make it more economical than purchasing a snow groomer for transport purposes. This up-and-down test drive has demonstrated that the Schiltrac on tracks isn't just a flop, but a machine that performs very well in snow.
