Fantastic! I hiked from Rüdlingen along the Rhine to the Ellikon ferry. A narrow path runs directly between the Rhine and the old Rhine channel. Opposite, you can see the mouth of the Thur River where it flows into the Rhine. Once at the ferry, you can walk to Ellikon and from there across the Thur meadows to Flaach. I stayed on my side of the river until I reached Lottstetten, Germany.
The ferry is ideal for shortening a bike tour or hike from Rheinau or Rüdlingen, for example. A lovely experience. Please note the operating hours!

Who would have thought it?! Ring the bell and the boatman will cross the river to come and get you. A timeless experience.
