Caution Bank Robbery On Monday April 22nd at approximately 11:30 am there was a robbery at the Glarner Kantonalbank headquarters in Glarus. In a twist the Bank robbed me and my Godson, given it was the Bank that was doing the robbing it was all perfectly legal, but just as unethical. In this case stealing money from a baby. 21 years ago, I was honored to become the Godfather to Brendan, who lives in Scotland. Knowing that my life and work would likely mean I would not always be there (I currently reside in Canada) I wanted to setup a bank account for him that I could deposit birthday and Christmas gifts in. Having a friend that worked at the Glarner Kantonalbank, and the Glarnerland being a favorite place to visit of mine, I set up two account there. In one account (mine) I deposited enough funds to transfer birthday and Christmas gifts to Brendan’s account every year until his 18th birthday. The plan being that on his 18th birthday we would visit the Glarnerland and he would take control of his account and the funds in it. Sadly, due to the Covid Pandemic travel restrictions the trip had to be delayed. We made the trip this year just after his 21st birthday. Upon arrival at the Glarner Kantonalbank headquarters we were informed that both my account and Brendan’s had been closed as all funds had been confiscated by the high fees charged to non-residents. Apparently, the bank had sent a letter to me informing me of this, and admittedly my mail does not always catch up to me as I move around a lot. This communication challenge was made worse by the Glarner Kantonalbank antiquated and in efficient online banking system, even for the era, that required paper-based pass codes to access. The accounts when setup had no fees. Currently Glarner Kantonalbank offers Adult savings accounts with no fees and Children and Young adults (up to 25) service accounts with no fees. With two internal transactions per year managing these accounts did not cost the bank much to operate. Yet the bank chose to impose high fees and literally take birthday and Christmas money from a Child. Using the excuse that the child was a non-resident, which they knew when the account was setup. The bank non longer accepts accounts for non-residents and residents of the Glarnerland may not mind their Kantonalbank treating non-residents this way. But I would caution all customers that a Bank that would ignore it fiduciary duty and confiscate money from a child is not one you should trust with your money. I still love visiting the Glarnerland and recommend it to everyone as one of Switzerland’s hidden gems, just do not bank there.
Great bank, I was treated very kindly. I would recommend this bank to anyone. Darko Krstic, in particular, does an outstanding job.
The Glarner Kantonalbank offers a first-class service in the mortgage sector.
Worst bank in Switzerland. They make mistakes and rip you off. Customer relations are a foreign concept to them. I can't recommend them to anyone.
Extremely bad. I spoke to someone on the phone. She assured me I would receive the data by mail. I still haven't received anything. If you want to withdraw money from outside the canton and go to the counter, their own employees hang up the phone during the call because of the data they need to process the withdrawal. One star is already too much. Lazy people!!!!
It was an honor to present our LED show for GLKB. Many thanks for the excellent collaboration. Best regards, THE BLACKOUTS.
