This is one of our fave hikes, and amazing for small children. Super friendly gondola guy, awesome BBQ and playground at the top and then halfway down. And a very chill walk downhill through the farms all the while gazing out to the beautiful mountains of the Muotathal Valley. We did this in May and only saw one other family all afternoon.
Better to get the cablecar from Illgau, parking at the top very difficult. Up here is the Ladybird trail, a walk with fun things for the kids, a great little forest playground and good facilities for grilling. We were lucky to get the last of the wood for a fire.

We took the cable car up and hiked down via the ladybug trail. It started raining heavily just as we reached the top, but even in the rain, it was a fun activity. The lift attendant came quickly to the lift after a call to help us very kindly. The other female attendant we saw on Sunday was also very kind and enthusiastic.
The Chäferliweg trail is what's meant. It's certainly difficult to hike with children, at least if you don't simply follow the road. We hiked from bottom to top along the marked path, which was quite strenuous. Due to unmowed sections with high, wet grass, we definitely recommend very good footwear. For the descent, you have to call ahead and they will then take you down.
