I sent Mr. Wawrik a hard drive for repair. Amount over CHF 1,800 upfront. Then an additional CHF 400 for special tools??!! The recovered data hasn't reached me yet. He promised a download via WeTransfer and so on... No data to date. Messages = zero Perhaps the good gentleman will get in touch now.
In 2019, I commissioned the company. Initially, they provided updates upon request, but this hasn't been the case for over a year now. They don't respond to phone calls, emails, or letters. The company doesn't give a trustworthy or professional impression, and I wouldn't send my hard drives to them for data recovery. It also raises the question of whether the company even still exists or is simply operating from a P.O. box. In short: It's better to use a competitor for data recovery than Data Repairs.
After giving only 1 star in my initial review, and only hearing from Data Repairs GmbH again after my feedback, I was very surprised by yesterday's phone call. The company had been trying to recover my data for the past three months. While this wasn't successful, I can only give them 5 stars because: 1.) They tried for an extended period. 2.) Since the data couldn't be recovered, the company isn't being paid; they are covering all costs. 3.) They informed me by phone about the status, as agreed upon three months ago.
My hard drive was no longer mountable after my computer crashed. After trying for a long time, the drive's condition worsened, and it started clicking. Curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to open the drive, which in hindsight was definitely a mistake, as it damaged the read/write heads. Before giving up on my data entirely, I started looking for a company that could recover it. After visiting their website, exchanging emails, and speaking with Mr. Wawrik on the phone, I decided to bring my hard drive to their facility in Sachseln in person. The setup looked professional, and everything was very organized and tidy. Just 1.5 business days later, I received a quote for recovering the 2TB of data, which was spread across 8 data layers. Of course, you can't expect such a service to be free, and you have to be prepared to consider the price realistically. (You can find the expected price range on the website.) Conclusion: The data recovery was carried out professionally and quickly, and I can recommend Data Repairs to anyone who values their data. However, please don't make the same mistake and don't open the hard drive, as this will only make the recovery more expensive, since further steps will then be necessary to increase the chances of a 100% recovery. PS: If you do open it, please inform them to prevent further damage. It will come out anyway ;)
The contents of my old, defective SSD were completely restored. So far, good. However, there was one big BUT: After 7 weeks (!), countless inquiries, repeated missed deadlines, no responses, etc., and – for over CHF 1,500. In retrospect, the whole thing makes a rather shady impression. It seemed to me like "keeping them waiting and then demanding a lot." I also found the "in Switzerland" part questionable, given the length of time. I wouldn't recommend it!
Update June 18, 2022: Change from "1" to "5"!!! Why? ... I never really believed it, but Mr. Wawrik practically never gave up until the last sector that could be read out could somehow be assigned... or not. We now have at least 50% of our family photos back. Some of them are irretrievable memories... the loss really hurt a lot. But, not only did he reassemble the image files as best he could, but he also had the 32,000 files automatically edited as best as possible and, where possible, sorted them into a chronological directory structure. A few weeks ago, I was there in person to express my "disbelief"... but the whole thing is neither a fake, but very, very professional. In any case, I'm extremely grateful that Mr. Wawrik NEVER gave up... he could have just as easily thrown the junk drives at my feet as unreadable... and I fear the same thing would have happened with most other services. Communication was a bit bumpy over the years, but when the light at the end of the tunnel became visible, communication regained its normal, expected momentum. Tip: simply agree on a schedule with status updates... I'm sure it'll work out. Thank you very much, Mr. Wawrik! I will recommend you... with a clear conscience. Update December 14, 2021: I received a call back immediately after the assessment. I haven't heard anything since then - which is a real shame. We handed in our NAS for data recovery on January 23, 2018. Since then, I've been successively put off by the fact that they should be "finished" in the next few weeks. Whenever I have contact with Mr. Wawrik, I find him to be pleasant and accommodating. However, after such a long time, one can no longer assume that the work is being diligently and continuously carried out. The data still has great sentimental value for us, so I simply feel at the mercy of the situation. All I can do is hope for a happy ending. Despite all the delays, we have always maintained our tone and shown appropriate understanding. If the results were finally available...
