My visit to the town hall today was probably the most pleasant experience I've ever had with a government office. The circumstances and timing of my visit were unusual: the office was officially closed. However, I was facing an administrative emergency and had little hope of receiving any help. I urgently needed a document without which my already booked trip abroad this weekend would have been impossible. Despite everything, the only person present opened the door for me—even though she had every reason not to, let alone grant my request. But she had a sympathetic ear for a local resident who had experienced an organizational mishap and simply showed humanity by helping him out of his predicament. This moment touched me deeply. It's good to know that real people work in this town hall—not just civil servants.
