You must bear in mind that Sarnen is an extremely small town by UK standards before you visit this place. For a town of 9,000 people the array of shops on offer is very good. I've lived in a similar town in the UK where the service is not as good as Sarnen (Aberystwyth in Wales). That said, when I lived in Sarnen, whilst generally being safe, there were a lot of youths - mainly male - who would loiter about in the evenings and at times it was a little bit intimidating, which is why this review has been docked so much. If you're entering after 5pm, enter from the back by where the Co Op is (if on foot), and you won't encounter these people so much. If you approach from the front or from the side near the garage, then that's where you could run into problems or feel intimidated. In addition, the train station does not have good toilet facilities, so if you're out , it's a 5 minute walk from the station and at car parking level. It's dead easy to find. It's just outside the entrance for Migros. The toilets are of a much better standard than you'd find in the UK and are perhaps the most sanitary I have come across. The toilets may, however, not be open on Sundays as the shopping centre is closed. The Co Op also has toilet access but their toilets cater for less people.
