A charming memorial to the Swiss (mythological) folk hero Arnold Winkelried who enabled his colleagues to breach the enemy pike defences at the battle of Sempach in 1386.
A beautiful Tribute.
I love the idea of coming here to see a monument erected in memory of someone who may never have existed. It's a great moment in Swiss history. So I add my voice to all the others. Long live the hero Winkelried! It's beautiful. 😀
A must-see for anyone interested in Swiss history. The chapel is very impressive, and you learn much more about the Battle of Sempach than you would in a classroom.
Knowing where you come from helps you know where you're going. It was interesting to return with my children, now adults, and for them to rediscover a part of their history. I combined the visit with a walk in Sempach and a meal at a restaurant. It was very pleasant.
A very beautiful chapel with magnificent murals. The monument is located directly on the busy main road, which is a bit of a shame.
