August 25, 2024 Our trip to St. Urban Monastery Church last night, captured in photos. It was incredibly moving! Program and performers: Choir: Cantabella Burgdorf Alphorn: Lisa Stoll, Patrick Kissling, Ueli Birrer Timpani: Sandro Frautschi Mass by Franz Schüssele for choir, alphorns, and timpani WORKS BY SCHÜSSELE, BRAHMS, SOMMER, ABBA, AND OTHERS
The monastery church, built between 1711 and 1717, is a blend of Baroque and Cistercian architecture. Its powerful atmosphere invites quiet contemplation and prayer. The organ builder Joseph Bossard constructed a masterpiece of an organ between 1716 and 1721. With 40 stops, over 2,500 pipes, and three manuals, it is one of the largest surviving Baroque organs in Europe. I would also like to draw your attention to the entire monastery complex, a truly beautiful park with a monastery bakery, a monastery inn, and a monastery butcher shop.
A beautiful place of power – flooded with light, clear and simple. The architecture is impressive without being cluttered. Anyone who appreciates silence and spiritual places will be touched here.
Nice to visit
Super beautiful monastery church that was built in 1717.
Very impressive. Hopefully, future generations will also take good care of this monastery. Beat Müller's personal stories were wonderful.
