The staff were very kind and helpful. We stayed for two days in Amden to snowboard. She gave us a map, answered all our questions about the bus system, and recommended places to go (sauna and bath) in English.
wonderful ❄️ day with lot of ☀️
Staff was friendly and very helpful.
Beware – parking ticket scam! We bought a parking ticket for four hours. On our return hike, we took a little longer than planned and were therefore 10 minutes over the time limit of our ticket. We already had a parking ticket on our car. Sure, it was our mistake. But still, it's awful for just 10 minutes! This is a deliberate and systematic way of lining the pockets of the municipality of Amden. No one can tell me this was an accident.
As a local, it's unbearable. Always overcrowded with day tourists. Public transport is practically always full, all year round, to the point that even local wheelchair users can't get on the bus because the tourists won't make room. If you rely on public transport, it's a nightmare. Hiking groups should have to register in advance, or they should just walk – after all, they're hiking for something!
Clearly one of the poorer municipalities in Switzerland, despite its scenic location. This is evident both in the stark townscape of Amden and in its highly innovative parking management methods. You're first misled by incorrect directions to parking meters, and when you finally return to your car after searching for the correct one, you'll find a parking ticket. So, you're advised to get right back in and avoid spending any more money. All in all, a place you don't need to visit.
