A small but excellent self-service mountain railway (no staff on site). This is a private railway; unfortunately, tickets cannot be purchased online, and GA (general pass), Half-Fare (half-fare), Junior Pass, etc. are not valid. Payment is possible on-site at the mountain station with Twint or by cash in the restaurant. The restaurant appears to be closed despite the address, so I can't definitively comment on how this works with cash. For details, see photos.
A small note: Each gondola holds six people, and the ride takes six minutes. There were 30 people ahead of us, so we had to wait in line for over half an hour. This isn't a criticism, just an observation.
A great little Lufthansa. It fits perfectly into the village: it's small, clean, and the staff is friendly. There was absolutely no waiting time in August 2023. We were able to board and ride immediately. We only paid at the summit station, which offers a fantastic view and is the starting point for many hiking trails. Payment is accepted by card or cash. The Witches' Trail is particularly recommended for families. Here, children experience wonderful adventures and get to know nature completely away from technology and digitalization.
A pretty little red cable car that quickly takes you from Wirzweli to Gummenalp. I miss the old Niederberger cable car a bit, but the newer one has the advantage of being comfortable and efficient. There's a bit of a wait in high season to get into the cabin, but the flow rate remains quite good (10-15 minutes). Some beautiful panoramic hikes are offered from the summit. There are also very beautiful views of the Stanserhorn, Rigi, and Titlis from the summit of Gummenalp.
A small, well-maintained, self-service train. It's inexpensive. Tickets are paid at the destination.
A small but perfectly formed cable car with very friendly service at the top station. It's the starting point for the well-known Witches' Trail, a favorite with families. The cable car's small capacity means there aren't as many people wanting to set off at the same time (as with larger cable cars). The view is beautiful.
