Excellent restaurant typiquement suisse.
Not sure where to start This was our first visit to the reopened Central. We had been here a couple of times before the new owners took over. The look has not changed much from before. The table arrangement, the fixtures, and the vibe are familiar. We recognized some staff as also have worked there before as well. We were seated promptly, menus brought, and aperitifs ordered and delivered. Shortly after orders were placed. This is where the normal experience ended. One at our table had ordered a glass of wine with dinner which arrived while the prosecco was still half full and entrees not yet seen. The waiter offered a sampling of red wine to 2 others which they were pleased to try. Very nice wine as well. The waiter returned and asked if they wanted to try the second wine and pour this into the same glasses even though there were 2 empty glasses on the table. Entrees arrived, 2 Rehpfeffer and one other. Two ordered a different glass of red wine for dinner which he brought and wanted to pour into the same tasting glasses as before but was interrupted. The waiter seemed a bit irritated. New glasses came and the wine was very pleasant. Dinner was eaten but the Rehpfeffer was very dry with little of the rich sauce we expected. Also, very little taste of pepper was found. We mentioned this to the waiter and he said he would pass this on to the kitchen. This was all OK but unexpected. The time came to clear the table and the waiter was losing some of his style, reaching across our seats to get the next plate. Asking us to assist in moving the plates. Well, ok, this is really not a big deal but Central positions itself as a higher-class restaurant. Entrees run from 30-50 Swiss Francs and a glass of wine can cost you 12 Sfr. This is not the service I would expect in an establishment like this. Dinner was over and we chatted a bit. We spoke about the food which was OK, but room for improvement. The service, while the waiter appeared to “want” to bring more to the experience, made more mistakes than the right ones. However, it was then that the table next to ours became very loud. We thought it was a very loud discussion about a football match but it wasn’t. It was the same waiter arguing with the patrons. He was saying “I do not have to take your comments” and asking the guests to leave. The shouting match continued for nearly 5 minutes with the other staff unable/unwilling to intervene. Finally, a person from the kitchen came out and removed the waiter, and announced the manager would be coming. The manager came but we were finished. This was not the experience we came for. We paid and said goodbye. We could only talk about this incredible experience which we wanted to forget. I have waited a day to write this review. I have spoken with the others with me about their thoughts a day later to see if we still feel the same. My opinion is this restaurant is trying hard but has many places to work on. We agreed we will not be coming back to Central for some time. There are many other places to eat in and around Affoltern which serve good food and excellent experiences.
Possibly the best restaurant in Affoltern am Albis. Good Swiss food with Italian influence every now and then. Friendly owner and staff. Nice atmosphere. Romantic dinners for two and groups of friends are equally well accommodated.
Its quiet a good restaurant. From outside it doesn't look so special but inside the restaurant looks good and cosy. Love the menus, they have a lot of different menus. You should try this restaurant, you will love it. Good service.
