The terms and conditions for purchasing an ArchiCAD license through IDC AG (even with a key member) are anything but customer-friendly. The dongle solution is completely outdated for mobile work. Even worse: If the dongle breaks (which can easily happen with this flimsy device in mobile use) or is stolen, there are no replacement options whatsoever. Any proactive solutions? Nope – it's pure profiteering. Even though only the hardware key is missing, a completely new software license has to be purchased – an absolute rip-off at these license prices!

It's regrettable that even key members only receive a replacement software dongle if it's lost in the office. Given today's work models, which include working from home and mobile work, the likelihood of losing the dongle while traveling is significantly higher. In such a case, a new license would have to be purchased. With today's technology, there are certainly better solutions to this problem. Another drawback of ArchiCAD is that the software is distributed through IDC, which means there's no direct communication with the manufacturer. With other CAD programs where we have direct contact with the manufacturer, feedback is often implemented more quickly, making the overall process simpler, faster, and more straightforward.

I am pleased to announce that I successfully completed a certified introductory course in Archicad 27, offered by ArchiCAD Switzerland, as part of my BA in Interior Architecture studies at the International University.
