I experienced a fantastic performance by the Emmental amateur theater group. A very good ensemble, a great play with many wonderful laugh-out-loud moments that had the whole hall roaring with laughter! Add to that tasteful local color, sophisticated staging, and masterful character development! I will definitely be back!
The play "Anne Bäbi im Säli" by the Emmental amateur theater group thoroughly amused my wife and me. Yes, to draw crowds to the theater, it has to be Gotthelf! But this particular Gotthelf doesn't quite meet everyone's expectations. Perhaps not everyone realized it was a play within a play? The German director's vision for the production also clashed with that of the village theater group. Even casting the roles proved problematic. The Ukrainian waitress at the Ochsen inn, where rehearsals were being held in the Säli room, was forced to participate against her will. The actors' personal crises became increasingly apparent. All the complications arising from the performance, humorously portrayed, also reflect current issues. It wasn't a picture-perfect theatrical world, but rather a world where nothing is truly right, just as it never was in Gotthelf's original work. Heinz & Trudi Wittwer
